A woman has been arrested on suspicion of arson following a fire in Margate today (October 10).

Fire crews, ambulance and police were called to Stratford House in Eaton Place just after 12.40pm following a report of fire inside the building.

A Kent Police spokesperson said: “Kent Police was called to Eaton Place, Margate at 12.42pm  when a fire was found inside a property. Kent Fire and Rescue Service also attended the scene.

“A woman was arrested on suspicion of arson and currently remains in custody while enquiries are ongoing.”

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: “Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a small fire in a domestic property at around 12:49pm on Eaton Place in Margate.

“Two fire engines were sent to the scene and crews wearing breathing apparatus use hose reel jets to extinguish the fire. Kent Police were also in attendance.”


  1. Ummm love this story but shame the reporter couldn’t get his facts right , clearly it was more than arson but that’s it reporter just trying to start spreading rumours considering he was standing in the carpark where the services were no where near him ,

    • The police state it is suspicion of arson. When a person has been arrested you can publish the charge (suspicion of) but not speculation. That would be for a court to decide on in the event the lady is charged. The chap took photos, he did not write the article which was not published until the police and fire service provided the relevant details.
