Detectives are investigating an attempt to steal a cash machine from the Co-Op store in St Peters.

Kent Police received a call at 4.50am today (February 24) reporting that a JCB digger had been used to remove an ATM from the Hopeville Avenue shop.

The cash machine was removed from the building, causing significant damage to the shop front as a result.

The vehicle was later found along a farm track off Hopeville Avenue, along with the ATM.

Witnesses reported seeing two men leave the scene.

The cash machine was also a target for vandals last May when three children were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.
