Roads taped off following Ramsgate ‘hit and run’

Police taped off  roads in Ramsgate following a hit and run that left an elderly man needing hospital treatment this afternoon (July 19).

Kent Police received a report of a collision involving a car and a bicycle at 2.25pm.

Officers and Secamb attended the scene in Queen Street by the junction with Effingham Street. The road is currently closed while work is ongoing at the scene.

George Street was also taped off although that is due to be reopened. Effingham Street was also closed due to the collision as part of the traffic management.

The air ambulance  landed at Government Acre. A man suffered head injuries and was taken to William Harvey Hospital in Ashford.

A witness said her 13-year-old son and a woman were also nearly hit by a red Fiat or Seat that left the scene after coming from Leopold Street to Effingham Street.

Kent Police confirmed the driver involved in the collision failed to stop at the scene.

A spokesman added: “Kent Police is conducting ongoing enquiries.”
