Ramsgate mayor and deputy elected for a third year

Ramsgate mayor and deputy Trevor Shonk and Barbara Young

Mayors from across Kent joined a ceremony last night (May 3) to watch Ramsgate mayor Trevor Shonk and deputy mayor Cllr Barbara Young be elected unopposed to the role for the third year running.

Cllr Shonk opened proceedings at St Laurence Church Hall with a gracious acknowledgement of the support he had received in his term of office from his fellow town councillors, his assistant Emma Brett and his wife Mandy.

Residents came out in force, applauding Cllr Shonk for his work on behalf of the community.

A poignant prayer was led by the Mayor’s Padre, the Revd Stuart Piper.

Council matters were then debated and the decision was reached to continue with the existing Chairmen and Vice-Chairmen of the four committees for amenities, finance and general purpose, planning and environment and town promotion.

Robert Anderson was appointed as Parish Lengthsman with Josh Matthews due to start a two year apprenticeship.

In concluding the meeting, Cllr Young spoke of how honoured she was to serve the local community, pledging to do her utmost for the people of Ramsgate whilst Cllr Shonk advised that he had, in the last 12 months, attended 198 events on behalf of the town of Ramsgate. His total number of ‘out and about’ photos has now reached a staggering 22,000, supported by an additional 3,000 videos.

The evening ended with a buffet.
