An interior designer from Ramsgate who has worked on Channel 5’s ‘Nick Knowles’ Big House Clearout’ has launched her own decluttering business.

Lynsey Fox says the aim of business The Home De-stresser is to “help people fall in love with their homes again.”

The crux of the business is helping to find storage and arrangement solutions to creating a clutter free home.

Lynsey, 46, said: “For the last six years I have been working as an interiors stylist for television and photography. This involves creating beautiful spaces to be captured on film.

“In 2022 I worked as an interior designer on Channel 4’s ‘Nick Knowles’ Big House Clearout’, designing stress-free spaces for families whose homes were previously full of clutter and mess. “The show’s aim was to remove all the belongings into a big warehouse to enable the families to see everything they owned to help them to start decluttering.

“In the meantime their home was being redesigned / redecorated. I created calm rooms with simple and practical storage solutions to prevent the mess reoccurring.

“In 2023 I worked back on season 2 of the show but this time art directing the warehouse: arranging all the belongings artfully to enable everything to be sorted through with ease.

“This was a very different job to designing rooms, but it really had an impact on me to see and touch each and every belonging once crammed in a home. It got me thinking about the reasons why people hold on to things or why they can’t get in the head space to start a clear out.

“This feeling stuck with me and I wanted to help other people, off camera, to create peace and calm in their homes.”

Lynsey, who moved to Ramsgate from London eight years ago, says she has always helped friends to declutter but hadn’t done it as a professional venture until taking part in the TV series.

She said: “Often people do not know where to start. When I start decluttering I ask questions about why they are keeping things.

“What I do is not about cleaning and I do not get involved in anything that requires a Hazmat suit!

“It about storage solutions and arranging things in better ways.

“There are benefits for mental health. People with busy jobs, children at home, things can get on top of them. If they come home to a tidy house then they can be happy in their home.”

Lynsey says she offers a non-judgemental and friendly service for projects small and large.
