Vehicles of all shapes and sizes were on show to the thousands of visitors who attended the year’s OhSoRetro show in Palm Bay on Sunday (September 27).
More than 1,700 vintage and classic vehicles were on display with everything from C5s and bubble cars to historic motors, Austins, Minis, VW campers and more.
Alongside the vehicles were stalls and entertainment from stilt walkers, Thanet Rock Choir, MOS Productions, Private Practice, 1st Margate Girls & Boys Brigades’ marching band, Triggers Broom, Magic Al, Professor Joe’s Punch & Judy and some 20 show and shine awards.
Since it was first launched in 2014 by VW enthusiast Lee Collier the show has grown in strength, attracting thousands of people to view the vehicles and enjoy the family fun, with this year’s event the biggest to date.
Lee also makes a substantial donation to 1st Garlinge Scouts who organise the litter pick at and after the show; to Broadstairs College, 1st Margate Girls & Boys Brigade and other local groups.
Lee said: “A massive thank you everyone who turned out for the 13th OhSoRetro Show “We had people travel the length and width of the UK and even some visitors from Belgium, Holland and France in their classic cars.
“It was also amazing to see so many come to Thanet for the long weekend and enjoy not only our beautiful coastline but also our local visitor attractions.
“I must also thank my incredible army of helpers who make the show run smoothly before during and after. Without them it really wouldn’t happen. Broadstairs College for managing our public parking and 1st Garlinge Scouts for help litter picking the fields and the surrounding roads, leaving it cleaner than it was before we arrived.
“We look forward to seeing everyone again next year for the 14th annual OhSoRetro Show on Sunday 26th September 2027.”
Cllr Barry Manners has written to TDC to suggest some additional parking management and signage next year to help traffic flow, but added: “It brings welcome revenue into Thanet, including overnight stays, and gives the visitor economy a useful boost as the main season begins to wind down.
“I hope we can attract more events of this kind and that TDC is actively looking to secure additional operators for festivals, shows and similar activities.”
