A Thanet cat charity has rehomed 22 cats so far this year, including long-term strays and cats with FIV.
The Missing Cats and Strays in Thanet group initially started out to reunite lost cats with their owners in 2011. In 2019 a neutering service and also began rehoming/ adopting out cats.
The group was set up by Lucy Cook, from Cliftonville, after her cat Willow went missing.
Lucy said: “We have reunited a whopping 22 cats since January, including some long-term strays and FIV Cats.
“We currently have one more cat who is finishing her home trial and then she is going to be formally adopted.
“We also have Colin who has FELV, who is about to embark on his two week home trial.
“We like to match the cats to the families and don’t believe in blanketing rules which exclude some families from adopting cats because they might live near a busy road or they don’t have a cat flap or a garden or they do have a garden in fact.
“We match the type of cat to the family in order to make sure that it’s going to make the cat happy in their new environment.
“We also offer a two week trial which means that the family can see how the cat adapts and this can be extended for another two weeks if there is another cat already in the home, just to make sure everything is fine, and then a formal decision can be made.
“We very rarely get any cats back!
“We also hold monthly neutering days with independent vets Vet2u where we offer low-cost neutering which is not means tested, a service for everyone to take advantage of.
“We have available dates in October, November and December – just inbox the Facebook page to book. Bookings must come directly via Missing Cats and Strays and not the vets themselves.”
A fundraising quiz for the charity is being held on September 30th at the Northwood Club, Ramsgate.
Quiz starts at 7.30pm, cost £5 per person, no need to book, just turn up.
Quizmaster is John Hardy and there is a £50 prize for the winner and a raffle.
