Happy Reading Children’s Bookshop in Broadstairs, founded by Nicci Rosengarten in 2024, has been named National Book Tokens’ Bookshop of the Month for August, recognising the independent children’s bookshop’s commitment to connecting local families with books, reading and literary events.
National Book Tokens praised the bookshop for its regular programme of author and illustrator events, book clubs and story times, and for its effective use of the National Book Tokens Local platform to help families discover activities and reading inspiration.
Nicci said: “We’re absolutely delighted to receive this recognition from National Book Tokens. As a small independent children’s bookshop, we’re passionate about championing stories and storytelling for, by and with children.
“Every event, story time and book recommendation is about helping children discover the joy of reading, so it’s wonderful to see that work recognised nationally.”
Happy Reading Children’s Bookshop, based above STAPLE in Reading Street, specialises in children’s books from babies through to ‘tweens’ and works closely with local schools and families throughout the year to inspire a lifelong love of reading.
National Book Tokens described Happy Reading as a bookshop “dedicated to championing stories and storytelling for, by and with children” and recognised its work in helping keep local families informed about its regular programme of events and activities.
