Ramsgate International Film Festival

The Ramsgate International Film Festival is a celebration of new works by local and international filmmakers, embracing innovative storytelling and new technologies, where diversity and inclusion are a matter of fact

The organisation also runs a variety of screenings throughout the year to bring more international independent cinema to local audiences as well as various events and workshops.

The Festival focus is to show new works and help promote film makers. Screenings are complemented by a strong programme of quality events and seminars, with industry professionals of high reputation, who have already confirmed their attendance.

All screenings are chosen by the Selection Committee, which is composed of a panel of industry professionals and local residents.

‘The Dreaming Seeds and Other Hidden Tales’ by Hannah Battershell

Now – 17th May. Thursday-Sunday, 7pm-late, Ramsgate Arts Club

Hannah Battershell is a Bristol-based artist whose artworks are intricate, narrative-driven pieces mostly made of hand cut, painted and layered pieces of paper. Seeking to draw the viewer in as a book might, each piece is a little world, inspired by time spent outdoors, peripheral visions, folk tales and dreams.

Visitors are encouraged to grab a torch & magnifying glass and get ready for a spring adventure into Hannah’s intricate & delicate artworks. The exhibition also features a mini cinema! with a rolling animation.

This solo exhibition by Hannah showcases a new collection of miniature paper collages framed in tins and animations made from the elements of these artworks. Opening at the time of the Spring Equinox, the exhibition is a celebration of seasonal change and of the small things, like seeds, those magic containers of hope. Informed by folktale, myth and a deep interest in plants and the more-than-human world, these miniature pieces invite you to step into the worlds they conjure.

Margate Record Connection

Saturday Kids Clay Club

Drop the kids off and release their inner potter for a creative session working with real clay,

These classes offer an exciting opportunity for children to explore and develop their own creative ideas through the medium of clay in a professional studio space with inspiring tutors. The sessions will include hand building, sculpting and throwing on the potters wheel, as well as an exploration into decorative techniques.

These 1.5 hr pottery sessions are suitable for 6-11 year olds. These sessions are limited to small groups so that everyone gets lots of attention and can work at their own pace.

Fee includes materials and firings (i.e. a “reasonable” amount of clay and glazes – if your child really wants to build a life size dinosaur they may have to charge a little extra.)

Introduction to Linocut Workshop

In this one day workshop you will learn how to carve and print linocut in black and white, under the expert guidance of Nick Morley (aka Linocutboy)

Linocut is a printmaking technique which can easily be practised at home. Although the basic principles of linocut are easy to learn, there are several things the beginner needs to know in order to produce successful prints.

In this workshop you will learn:

Which tools and materials to buy

How to plan your image and transfer it to the lino block

How to safely use a range of cutting tools to create a range of marks

How to ink the block correctly

How to print by hand (wooden spoon) and with a printing press

By the end of the workshop you will have a small edition of your print (A5 size) to take home and the knowledge and skills to continue making linocuts at home.

Earth Hour Fun

In support for WWF Little Ravens will be celebrating all things EARTH! You will be drawing and creating your very own moving animals, experimenting with science whilst making a ‘fizzy earth’ and talking Co2.

The fun doesn’t stop there, as you get creative decorating your very own light lantern. Your lanterns will help as the world comes together to turn their lights off at 8:30pm to support EARTH HOUR!

A Deal business is celebrating a decade of dedication to charity with an exhibition — and the community is invited to be part of it.

Frames for You, alongside the newly opened New Street Gallery in Deal, is marking 10 years of supporting charity Martha Trust by hosting a week-long charity art exhibition, with all proceeds going directly towards supporting people with profound disabilities.

The story began in 2016, when Martha Trust’s Fundraising & Events Manager, Kerry Banks BEM, approached the team for support with framing donated artwork to help maximise fundraising efforts. Since then, father-and-son duo Arron and Sam Skirrow have become passionate, long-term supporters of the charity.

Now, to celebrate this milestone, they are taking their support to the next level.

For one special week, New Street Gallery will showcase a collection of donated artwork, with 100% of proceeds going to Martha Trust. The gallery will also donate their commission from any additional artwork sold during the exhibition.

The exhibition launches with a special preview evening on Friday 27th March, from 6pm to 9pm, where guests will have the first opportunity to view and purchase the artwork. Attendees will be welcomed with a complimentary glass of prosecco or a non-alcoholic alternative.
