This week has been Diversity Week for Minnis Bay class at Newlands Primary School in Ramsgate.
The class has had the opportunity to explore, engage and embrace a new culture, religion and celebration.
This term, the children have been learning about the Hindu celebration called ‘The Holi Festival’. They started the week by exploring what the different religions are, before moving onto the reasons Hindus participate in the Holi Festival. The class re-enacted the story of Prahlad and God Vishnu, to understand the reasoning behind the bright colours that are used during the festival.
On Thursday, St. Mildred’s Bay class joined Minnis Bay in the preparations for their own Holi Festival. The children’s enthusiasm and dance skills were incredible to watch as they participated in learning a Bollywood-style dance. After the dance, all the children were very excited as they went outside, ready to finish the Holi Festival celebrations with powdered paint. Everyone was completely covered in a mixture of wonderful colours.
Mrs Farbrace, Deputy Headteacher, said: “This was such a fantastic and memorable experience for the children and I am so proud and delighted to have seen all of the children joining in with such enormous smiles on their faces.”
