6th Ramsgate Sea Scouts are looking for passionate individuals to join their dedicated team of volunteers, as they continue to provide young people in Ramsgate with exciting opportunities to develop skills, confidence, and a sense of adventure.
As part of the Sea Scouts’ ongoing commitment to serving the local community, the group is currently seeking volunteers for several key positions, including Beaver Leaders, Cub Leaders, Scout Leaders, and Trustees. Whether you’re an experienced leader or looking to give back to your community, there’s a role for you!
Squirrel Section Leader – 6th Ramsgate Sea Scouts are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic volunteer to take on the role of Squirrel Section Leader. The Squirrel section is designed for children aged 4-6 years old, offering them a fun and engaging introduction to Scouting. As a Squirrel Section Leader, you’ll have the exciting opportunity to establish and lead this new section, potentially in the not-too-distant future, helping to lay the foundations for the next generation of Scouts. If you have a passion for working with young children and are keen to shape a new, exciting program, this role could be a perfect fit!
Beaver assistant Leaders – Are you enthusiastic and enjoy working with younger children? As a Beaver Leader, you will help guide children aged 6-8 years old through their early scouting journey. This is a wonderful opportunity to make a lasting impact on the youngest members of the Scout movement, teaching them new skills, teamwork, and responsibility.
Cub assistant Leaders – Cub Scouts (ages 8-10) are always eager to explore the world around them, and as a Cub Leader, you’ll have the chance to inspire these young people to take on challenges, work together as a team, and take part in fun, adventurous activities. If you have a flair for creativity and enjoy working with children, this is the perfect role for you!
Scout Assistant Leaders – The Scout section is for young people aged 10-14, and as a Scout Leader, you’ll play a vital role in shaping the next generation of leaders. From camping and hiking to building essential life skills, Scouts have the chance to discover and grow, and you’ll be there every step of the way to provide guidance, support, and motivation.
Trustees – As a Trustee, you’ll help guide the strategic direction of the 6th Ramsgate Sea Scouts and ensure the continued success of the group. Trustees play a key role in overseeing the financial health, governance, and overall development of the Scouts. If you have experience in leadership, business, finance, or simply want to contribute to a fantastic local charity, this is a great way to make a real difference.

Probus Club of Ramsgate and District
The Probus Club of Ramsgate and District celebrated its 50th anniversary on the 5th March with a special lunch at the San Clu Hotel in Ramsgate, along with regular members, guests attended from other local Probus clubs such as Broadstairs, Birchington and Herne Bay.
In addition, the Mayor of Ramsgate – Councillor Patricia Moore also attended.
The Ramsgate Probus Club was formed back in 1975 but the Probus Club movement actually dates back to 1965 when three businessmen travelling on a train to London, who were on the brink of retirement, realised that they had a need for fellowship. From there the idea of a club soon grew.
A Probus club is a local association of retired and semi-retired professional and businesspeople. The name is an amalgam of the abbreviation of the words professional and business. Probus is also a Latin word meaning honest or virtuous, from which the English word “probity” is derived. Each Probus club is autonomous.
There is no central organisation, and each club sets its own rules. Today there are an estimated 1700 Probus Clubs in the UK.
New members to the Ramsgate club are very welcome. Each month there is a lunch followed by informative and entertaining guest speakers. Members also attend coffee mornings which feature talks (given by individuals) about their lives, careers and hobbies.
This year there are numerous social functions in the pipe-line that are not just for members but for their partners as well. Already booked are two holidays, a dine & theatre event, a quiz night and special dinners.

The Gap Project & QRBC
The Gap Project, working with Queens Road Baptist Church, is an incredible charity that provides much-needed support for our local community. From parents with young children to older members, the project is making a real difference in people’s lives every day.
Here’s a glimpse of the amazing services they offer:
- Parents and Young Children: The Gap Project runs baby groups and support groups, offering a safe and welcoming space for parents and their little ones. It’s a fantastic opportunity to connect with others, share experiences, and get the support you need as you navigate the early years of parenthood. If you have young children, definitely get involved with the family cafe on the last Monday of every month!
- Community Café with Affordable Meals: The café, run by volunteers, serves affordable meals every day. Whether you’re after a comforting cup of coffee or a hearty lunch like sandwiches or jacket potatoes, you’ll be met with a warm smile and delicious food. If you haven’t visited yet, make sure to pop in – the kitchen is always buzzing with good food and great company!
- Safe Space for the Homeless: The Gap Project has also worked tirelessly to provide a safe space for the homeless in our community and has weekly drop-ins for the homeless on Tuesdays and Fridays.
- Support for Seniors: The charity also runs a dementia music group, bringing joy and connection to older members of our community. Music has such a powerful effect, and it’s amazing to see how this group helps people with dementia feel more engaged and supported.
- Health and Wellbeing Initiatives: The Gap Project offers general health and wellbeing services, including movement classes, adult literacy, and IT support. These programs are vital in empowering individuals to improve their skills, health, and confidence in a friendly, supportive environment.

An incredible group of people are working tirelessly at The Gap Project and Queens Road Baptist Church, and they are looking for your help! The buildings management team have identified a need for a new extraction system for the kitchen as the current one is not fit for purpose and are trying to raise £10,000 to pay for it.

Friends of Oasis
The Friends of Oasis are hosting their 10th annual lunch at The Pavilion, Broadstairs on Thursday 1st May.
The Friends of Oasis is a committee of local volunteers formed in 2015 with the objective of hosting special events to raise vital funds for Oasis Domestic Abuse Service. All funds raised help pay for unexpected or urgent eventualities that can arise in the lives of service users.
The Friends have raised over £45,000 for Oasis over the years and have paid for, among other things, school uniforms, glasses, nappies, travel to hospital appointments, cots for babies, kitchen utensils for families having to start again and beds for women who would otherwise have to sleep on the floor.
The money they’ve raised has also allowed Oasis to offer holiday activities such as swim and cinema passes to the families staying with them in refuge, which has had a direct and meaningful impact on both Mum and child, providing them with valuable time to connect and have fun as they recover from domestic abuse.

QEQM Hospital League of Friends
Patients attending the Audiology clinic at the QEQM Hospital for ear-mould impressions prior to the fitting of a hearing aid are now benefiting from a state-of-the- art scanner our charity recently funded at a cost of £18,356.
The device – shown with Senior Audiologist Paul and examples of the images it produces – uses non-invasive laser technology to provide highly accurate 3D scans of the ear which deliver better fitting and better performing custom ear- moulds. This results in an improved patient experience as only one scan is needed along with enhanced patient safety, plus the device can be used on patients with medical conditions that prevent physical impressions being taken.
Chief Audiologist Karen Dyer said: “This is without doubt the most innovative device that changes the way audiologists have taken impressions of the ear for the last 40 years. Acute Audiology would like to give a huge thank-you to our League of Friends for their continued support.”

The Great Ramsgate Spring Clean 2025
From Friday 21st to Sunday 30st March, local volunteer groups have organised 19 community litter picks around Ramsgate.
The Great Ramsgate Spring Clean is organised by the Ramsgate Litter Forum* and consists of a series of short local litter-picks across town aimed at tackling ‘grotspots’ & areas that attract litter, each organised by a different group of local residents or a local community group.
Everyone is welcome take part in any of the litter-picking sessions, and children are also very welcome if accompanied by an adult. The litter-picks usually last between 60 minutes and 90 minutes – and you can do as much or as little as you like.
Pickers, hoops, rubbish bags will be provided for all events – and the collected rubbish will be picked up afterwards (thank you, Ramsgate Town Council & the RTC Technicians).

April 24 – Paul Hutchinson (Belshazzars Feast) and Crampton will provide version 2 of their Folk Detectives show that has been well received around the country, version 1 was at Broadstairs Folk Week last year.
Still incompetently failing to book major artists, they will be exploring goodness knows what in the name of folk music. £16
May 8 – Granny’s Attic, a first collaboration between ARK and Rosslyn Court. Granny’s Attic are an amazing folk band with pedigree. Cohen Braithwaite Kilcoyne has worked with Angeline Morrison and Reg Muross to chronicle the slave trade in the UK
Cohen is an amazing singer, concertina and melodeon player. George Sansome plays guitar and sings, having more energy than one person should have during concerts and with Sophie Crawford created the Queer Folk movement. Lewis Wood is an amazing fiddle player and is the main composer.
Together they are the leading folk band in England and as such are much in demand. Therefore, we needed a larger venue and are working with ARK on this one. May 8th (a few at £10 and a few at £20 to help us subsidise the concessionary tickets)
June 26 – Jackie Oates, – folk legend.
July 31 Jez Lowe. If you’ve never fancied folk music, try this one. His song writing is superb and he puts on an entertaining evening.

Martha Trust
A very popular annual event for the Martha Trust in partnership with Barclays UK will be held on Saturday 22nd March.
This event will mark a milestone 10 years of the Bettesteiner Footstompers supporting the charity.
The Kent based Bavarian style band are bringing back the spirit and joy of the Munich Oktoberfest to St Mary’s Arts Centre, Strand Street, Sandwich in aid of Martha Trust from 7.30 pm. Doors open at 7pm
Big Willy, Otto Gell, Gretel, Stefan Schnetker and Wandering Hans will be playing a selection of foot stomping, thigh slapping German tunes to give this live music event the authentic festive feel.
Tickets cost £35 each and include a Peach Schnapps on arrival, all your drink and food – beer, wine and soft drinks, sausages and live music.
To date, there are less than 70 tickets left for this very popular event.
