It is described as: “An excellent opportunity to acquire a versatile parcel of land situated on the south side of College Road, Margate.

“This well-located site offers a range of potential uses.  The site benefits from good access to local amenities, transport links, and the vibrant coastal town of Margate, making it a desirable location for various uses.”

The plot is part of an old track bed that has been desolate since 1972 when Margate goods yard closed.

At one time there was a long siding, up to Nash Road Bridge, to shunt trucks up to shove wagons back into the yard.

The flat section at the top was where the rails were before going across the bridge for the old SER line from Ramsgate to Margate Sands which closed on 2nd July 1926. The slope was the embankment.

The land is listed as being within the ownership of  Knights Lodge Properties Ltd, which is responsible for developments including Turner Close, a private-gated development of chalet bungalows built on the former railway track by Nash Court Gardens.

  1. Ideal for public amenity landscaping, shrubs, flowers etc, not for flogging off to the highest bidder. TDC are really stooping low and taking the pee from us council tax payers and residents. That land is useless for anything else.

    • I am a bit confused why you think it has anything to do with TDC. It says in the article. The land is owned by Knights Lodge Properties Ltd. I presume before that it was owned by the railway.

  2. Don’t estate agents talk such utter rubbish? A “versatile” site which benefits from a total absence of flat ground, v. little direct sunlight, plenty of rain run-off, no parking on a one-way street stuck between 2 sets of busy traffic-light junctions!

  3. Its a great shame the old railway line track bed from Margate via Westwood to Ramsgate has been built on , with westwood getting bigger , it may have been ideal for a tram line.

  4. There is no way that any Council should give planning permission for anything on this site. Sounds like money down the drain to me..

  5. Footprints estate agents is made up of useless ex Miles and Barr staff. No good then, No good now!!

  6. “Versatile parcel”. What a great marketing expression for something worthless. I shall try it on eBay. “Versatile parcel of toenail clippings/used tea bags/pre-loved cat litter for sale. Early viewing recommended”. God bless our estate agents. Those close to local amenities and transport links anyway.

  7. Many estate agent house / property descriptions deserve to be on the fiction shelf of the local library!

  8. I wonder when the contractors, who cleared the site will be removing the tonne bags ands green waste. They have left in the road. About 4 weeks ago? As seen in the last picture.
