A new garden information sign has been unveiled on ‘The Library Bank’ adjacent to Broadstairs railway station this week.
The sign features information panels linked to all aspects of the gardening projects that Town Team volunteers maintain.
It is a project co-funded by Broadstairs and St. Peter’s Town Council and Creative Isle Community Rail Partnership (CICRP), a collaboration from Southeastern, Turner Contemporary and Thanet District Council.
The panels were conceived by the Town Team and designed and made by Broadstairs’ linocut artist Cath Deeson. They feature four separate panels, each depicting an element relevant to the work the Town Team Gardens group do in and for the town.
Encouraging wildlife, sustainable gardening tips, flora and fauna and the health and wellbeing benefits of working outside together all then link via QR code to more in depth information and tips on the Town Team website.
A series of greetings cards showing the fabulous illustrations are also available via Cath’s Etsy site and 50% of profits go to Town Team garden projects.
The idea for the sign came from conversations volunteers have had about their work with passers-by, garden enthusiasts and school groups.
The volunteers wanted to share their knowledge and tips and encourage more people to join and enjoy the benefits of community gardening.
The new sign was unveiled today {November 21} with town mayor Cllr Mike Garner cutting the ribbon.
Sue Wainwright, who coordinates Town Team volunteers that give their time to garden across eight sites, said: ‘’We love sharing garden tips and are asked daily by people who love the work we do for more information about plants, planting, why volunteering is so rewarding, how they can make a difference in their own gardens and be more sustainable.
.Joe Fenwick-Wilson, from CICRP, added : “We’re fortunate to have Broadstairs Town Team as a station adoption group in Thanet and we are pleased to support this project. “The signpost reflects how gardens nurture our connections with nature, with ourselves, and with each other.”

Looks really good although I’m a little concerned its location means it will be too easy to graffiti.
i was just thinking the same thing , it wot take them long + they are never caught for some strange reason . before you start i did see the recent one
