Book signing at the Walpole Bay Hotel

August 18, 4pm-6 pm

Richard Savin, International author of 25 novels and #1 Amazon best sellers, will be signing his latest book, ‘Murder at the Walpole Bay Hotel’ in the lobby of the Walpole Bay Hotel. The book is the second in the series and follows last year’s ‘The Man at the Walpole Bay Hotel.’

There are five books planned, and third,  ‘The Phantom at the Walpole Bay Hotel,’ is already at first manuscript stage.

The hotel opening in 1914 coincided with the outbreak of WW1 when ‘spymania’ gripped the nation. The books use this theme and the period as the back drop for the amateur sleuthing exploits of Dorothy Coates and Effie Dalrymple, two respectable ladies of a certain age who have a slightly raffish side to them. These are ladies who like a bottle of Chablis with lunch, cocktails in the afternoon and brandy digestifs after supper.

Dorothy loves a bit of speeding  around in her beloved Vauxhall Prince Henry – the top sports car of 1914 whilst Effie is a bit of a crack shot with her late husband’s Mauser service pistol.

They are the relentless nemesis of Inspector Artful Archie Page who finds them extremely irritating as they set about solving the murders that he is unable to fathom.

The author will be happy to chat about the series whilst signing books.

Copies of books 1 and 2 are available to purchase from the hotel reception

Palace Cinema film and Q&A

He thinks they’re done for until he realises they’re being watched and helped to survive by Kensuke, an old soldier, who becomes his greatest and most trusted friend.

Co-director Neil Boyle (pictured) has worked as an animator on films including Who Framed Roger Rabbit, The Simpsons and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. After the screening of Kensuke’s Kingdom, the audience will have a unique opportunity to find out how Neil set about directing the film, working from a script co-written by Michael Morpurgo and Frank Cottrell Boyce (Millions). https://thepalacecinema.co.uk/production/kensukes-kingdom/
