The UK’s Eurovision entry will be on a giant screen at Ramsgate’s harbour as the town gets behind resident Sam Battle in his bid to be crowned winner.
Sam – under the name Look Mum No Computer – hopes his song will gain the top points as he represents the UK at the Eurovision finale on Saturday (May 16).
To mark the momentous and fun-filled occasion, the giant screen will be installed opposite The Queen’s Head for a free-to -attend viewing party starting at 7pm. There will then be live coverage from 8pm until midnight.
Prizes will be given to the best ‘Eurovision inspired’ costumes so go dressed to impress.
Sam is affectionally known as the ‘professor of pop’, and is a ‘synth genius’ . His creations range from the viral Furby Organ, which has racked up more than 7 million views on YouTube, to the world record breaking ‘drone synth’ – officially recognised by Guinness World Records.
Sam also owns ‘This Museum is (NOT) Obsolete’ in Ramsgate’s Church Street, attracting visitors from around the world, keen to see its unique collection of electronic wonders and fascinating bits of technology.
Claire Kilcourse, Sam’s Ramsgate- based manager, researched how to get accepted on Eurovision and put him in a writing workshop with three well-established songwriters, Lasse Midtsian Nymann (NYLAN), Julie ‘Kill J’ Aagaard and Thomas Stengaard.
It was announced in February that the song they created ‘Eins, Zwei, Drei’ would be the UK’s Eurovision entry. The catchy tongue-in- cheek anthem is about escaping the monotonous nine to five grind.
Sam told the BBC that he hopes people will ‘embrace the absurd jubilation that I hope it sparks when you listen to it. We’re working hard on pulling together all the elements to make it one of the wildest performances to ever grace the Eurovision stage, which is no small feat!’
Since February, Sam has been on a promotional whirlwind and is now in Vienna, rehearsing for the big night. This year marks Eurovision’s 70th anniversary and it promises to be as bonkers and bombastic as ever.
Dedicated Eurovision fans will be tuned into the semi-finals on Tuesday 12 and Thursday 14 May but the main event will be on Saturday.
The giant screen will be funded and installed by Ramsgate Town Council with support from The Queen’s Head, Sorbetto, Thorley Taverns and Video Illusions.
DJ Nick Jones and Compere Shiv will get the party started at 7pm, giving out prizes for the best Eurovision inspired costumes, then handing over live to Vienna at 8pm.
If people fancy something sweet while they’re watching the show, Sorbetto has created a special Eurovision milkshake and Jam Roly-Poly ice-cream inspired by the lyrics to Eins, Zwei , Drei!
As if representing the UK at Eurovision and keeping up with his mechanical creations wasn’t enough, Sam and his wife Dr Melanie King became parents to baby Max in April.
No doubt whatever happens in Vienna he’ll be looking forward to getting back home to his family, and, of course, Ramsgate.

Geographically since when did Israel become part of Europe ? Surely they are part of the Middle East and so are in Eurovision by default
Israel is in Western Asia, so should not be in any competition that is European. Haven’t watched it since the days of Pearl Carr and Teddy Johnson, so not too bothered!
