A four-piece band from Margate is urging fellow Thanet residents to help them break into the UK album chart – but people only have until midnight tonight (January 15) to push the band through.
Squangey Bobbins – made up of Lewis Colley, Jack Elliot, Michael Copping, Chris Bourne – launched their latest album Margate Crows last October and now hope people will buy it and help them hit the charts.
Digital sales count until midnight today.
Band member Lewis said: “We’re completely independent, no label, management, industry or financial backing. We will never get another shot at this, and we have poured everything into it.
“We had to borrow money and balance this campaign with our jobs. But we are in a good position to make the charts. We just need a final push.”
The band is described as carrying the raw energy of The Jam, the wit of Arctic Monkeys, and the chaos of The Libertines.
Album Margate Crows brings together an impressive roster of collaborators, including Billy Lunn (The Subways), Sean Hutchinson (Bleachers, Taylor Swift, Bruce Springsteen), Peredur Ap Gwynedd (Pendulum), Ivan Hussey (Liam Gallagher, Jay Z), Dan Konopka (OK Go), Dan Sealey (Ocean Colour Scene), Tommy Gleeson (Feeder), and a host of local artists.
The record has been mastered by Nick Brine (Oasis, The Stone Roses, Coldplay, The Darkness) and Alex Wharton (Abbey Road Studios), with artwork captured by Roger Stanger Photography, showcasing the beauty and grit of Kent.
Lewis adds that Will Smith entered the UK album chart at number 79 with just 36 downloads, so the guys are hoping the final push will see them break through.

Bit surprised thar this article doesn’t include that this band are playing live today ( Thursday ) at Gatefield Sounds independant record shop in Whitstable . It starts at 5pm and is free of charge . I think the band could do with me as their publicist ! lol
Just because you’ve invested heavily in collaborations and well renowned producers doesn’t make this any more worthy of charting than whole swathes of other small independent artists.
