Thirteen UK Top 40 singles, thousands of cow-adorned ‘Cool As F**k’ t-shirts transforming them into accidental 90’s cult-fashion icons, big money record deals and Noel Gallagher helping to lift their gear from venue-to-venue, life as a member Inspiral Carpets has been anything but dull.
Now, 45 years after the band first flickered into life and a quarter of a century since the release of their era-defining debut album, Life, the band hits the road for 18 UK & Ireland dates this winter.
Ahead of their return to roll back the years on stage, with suggestions of new material too, the band has described their upcoming gigs as ‘monumental’.
With chart hits including This Is How It Feels and Saturn Five, the Inspirals lined-up alongside the likes of Stone Roses and Happy Mondays as cornerstones of a new era. Signing to Mute Records in a rush of publicity in 1990, the band released their UK Top Five debut album, Life, in the same year.
The following four studio albums, three of those UK Top 20 hits, added singles including Caravan, Dragging Me Down and I Want You (featuring The Fall’s Mark E. Smith and adopted by Sony for primetime car stereo advertising) to the songbook of instantly-recognisable indie disco standards.
This year, the band’s long-standing bassist, Martyn Walsh, returns after he sat out the 2024 tour for personal reasons.
Walsh reunites with vocalist and keyboard-player, Clint Boon, founding guitarist, Graham Lambert and original Inspiral Carpets singer, Stephen Holt, alongside drummer, Kev Clark.
Inspiral Carpets were famously the band that gave Oasis guitarist and songwriter, Noel Gallagher, a job as a roadie for many years before he and Liam joined forces and changing the course of music history.
The band play at Dreamland Margate on Sunday 7th December.
This event is classified as 14+ meaning anyone aged 14 – 17 years old, must be accompanied by an adult over the age of 18.
