Needy families in the Margate area are being supported by food donations from caring children and families at St Gregory’s Catholic Primary School.
As part of the school’s harvest festival celebrations, a variety of packet and tinned foods have been collected and these will be distributed to those facing hard times.
Head Teacher Dave Walker said: “The school community united to collect the donations for those less fortunate than ourselves. It goes to our local food bank run by St Austin and St Gregory’s Catholic Church in Margate.
“We know there are many families using this resource regularly because they cannot afford the cost of food. The whole country is going through a tough time and I think that it is so positive that we are able to help in our community, even in a small way.
“There is unity in strength of purpose and our festival contributions demonstrated our desire to help others – it was a little beacon of hope for those in need.”
St Gregory’s is a keen supporter of charity appeals and events locally, regionally and nationally.
The whole school of more than 300 children, parents and community members took part in the festival. The pupils dressed in non-uniform and contributed a food item.
Botany Bay class led by teacher Shimona Sandwell composed a wonderful display of seasonal goods. They shared praise through poetry, songs and prayers before each class offered their gifts.
