Dispersal orders are in place in Thanet again this weekend as Kent Police work to deter antisocial behaviour.
People are being reminded to socialise responsibly or face action taken against them by officers.
The Section 34 dispersal orders in Broadstairs, Margate and Ramsgate last for 48 hours, and began at 2pm today (July 11).
The additional policing power ensures people of any age above 10, who are seen to be carrying out nuisance behaviour, can be moved away from the area. If they return within a certain time limit, they risk arrest and further police action.
The orders, coupled with high-visibility patrols, are part of the continued response to concerns after last month’s mayhem in Broadstairs with underage street drinking, and aggressive behaviour towards staff at shops and restaurants.
Anyone under 18 can also expect to have alcohol confiscated from them if found.
Officers are working with partner agencies including British Transport Police, Thanet District Council and police teams in other towns across Kent, to reduce the risk of anyone travelling to Thanet to carry out violence and disorder.
District Commander for Thanet, Chief Inspector Ian Swallow said: “Officers will be monitoring the situation throughout the weekend and the dispersal orders, which cover large areas including the town centres and beaches, will be renewed or introduced to other areas where necessary.
“Over the past few weeks, patrols have been out along the beaches and streets, challenging those seen behaving in a disorderly manner and disrupting anyone showing signs of aggressive behaviour. Harassing others, or causing people to feel distressed or alarmed, is not tolerated.
“With a sunny forecast predicted for Thanet, we ask that parents make sure they know where their teenagers are this weekend, and to remind them that any bad behaviour will have serious repercussions. We have returned children back home and had to speak to parents about the issues they are causing in the district as well as the ongoing action they are liable for.
“Anyone who witnesses any antisocial behaviour taking place, is urged to report it to Kent Police by dialling 999 if a crime is ongoing or life is in danger, or by online report via the Kent Police website.”
