Palm Bay Primary School has achieved an outstanding grade in personal development and good ratings for all other areas following a visit by Ofsted inspectors.
Inspectors said Palm Bay “champions the needs of all its pupils” and is a “happy, busy and friendly school.”
Ofsted noted: “The school makes an exceptionally strong contribution to pupils’ personal development and well-being. The school makes full use of its proximity to the beach to enrich and enliven learning, with a wide range of activities and experiences built into the curriculum.”
Palm Bay’s care for SEN/D youngsters is also highlighted, with inspectors saying: “A small proportion of pupils with more significant behavioural needs are supported effectively and with kindness, so that they feel secure and are quickly re-engaged with learning.”
The school converted to an academy as part of the EKC Schools Trust in April 2022 and in September last year a new headteacher was appointed, following a period as interim headteacher. The assistant headteacher and deputy headteachers were also appointed in the same month.
Ofsted Inspectors said the school “sets high expectations for all pupils’ achievement and behaviour, regardless of ability or background. Pupils rise to these high expectations.”
It was also noted that good mental health is a “strong priority” and Palm Bay has “worked hard to secure improvements in pupils’ attendance,” although there is more work to do in this area.
Headteacher Gemma Silk said: “There’s been a lot of hard work behind the scenes to maintain these judgements, and we’re thrilled that the hard work of our staff has been recognised.
