An updated police statement has now been provided
Police, paramedics and air ambulance were called to Birchington yesterday {January 23} following an ‘altercation’ and an assault on a man who was then driven to Ramsgate and ‘released’ from the assailants’ vehicle.
Residents reported numerous police vehicles and officers cordoned off an area of Colemans Stairs Road. Searchlights were also reportedly used.
Kent Police say the large response concerned an altercation between two men in a black Mercedes and a man who was walking in the street.
The man is reported to have then been assaulted before being taken into the car and driven to Ramsgate where he was ‘released.’
Police say the victim suffered minor injuries. South East Coast Ambulance attended but was stood down soon after arriving.
Enquiries are ongoing.
A Kent Police spokesperson said: “Kent Police is investigating a suspicious incident which took place in Birchington on Thursday 23 January.
“Between 5.25pm and 5.30pm, an altercation took place between a man who was walking in Colemans Stairs Road and at least two men who were reportedly in a black Mercedes.
“It is alleged that the man who was on foot was then assaulted, before being driven to Ramsgate and released from the vehicle. Police were called at 5.39pm.
“The victim sustained minor injuries and detectives are working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.”
If this was Cliftonville all the comments would suggest it’s because it’s that area. So maybe Birchington (Thanet as a whole) has these sort of things going on 😕

Yes, what was all the fuss? So much activity for no apparent reason. Definitely weird.
Likely an “ intelligence” led response, car / occupants having “links” to nefarious activities, any suspicion of firearms and the response will be ramped up to cover any risk assessement.
If the commentators on here cannot detect the heavy odour of serious drug gangs operating then you all need to visit an ENT clinic.

Ton- I don’t see what ear, nose and throat problems have to do with this article. I too wondered what was happening during the described incident, and why the police were involved. That doesn’t mean that Samantha, Anne and I are stupid.
Hearing – tone deaf? Nose – not sniffing out corruption or toxicity? Throat – being asphyxiated to the point where your brain doesn’t get enough oxygen to help you think?

it appears that serious crimes are spreading throughout this area , and i agree it can affect propery prices , anyone reading our local news before travelling here would think twice , i know i would.

As usual, everyone on here is jumping to conclusions which will remain merely idle speculation until the police release a full report. Perhaps the two gentlemen in the car stopped and asked the pedestrian for directions, and he kindly offered to hop in and show them the way to Ramsgate, then suffered his minor injuries tripping over when he got out. Perhaps he was walking his dog, and noticed a car parked in a lay by with steamed up windows, went to investigate, and was bundled inside and roughed up by the gentlemen inside, who had taken umbrage at his inquisitiveness. We simply won’t know the full story until the authorities tell us…. But yeah, my money’s on it all being drug related.
It’s inevitable that there will be a lot more of this sort of thing going on in Thanet as it grows fast in population. Will just have to get used to it if the police presence is not allowed to grow along with it. All those dangerous drug dealers coming down from London and further afield to collect their payments in their high-end cars paid out of crime. The local plod have no idea how to handle it. Confiscate the proceeds of crime and use it for repairing fragmented society.
All the time TDC are importing ‘dross from London’ (utter dross) as opposed to ‘down from London’ (wealthy dross) we can expect more and more and more of this type of behaviour.
