An interactive event aimed at inspiring young minds to become tech innovators was a successful challenge for children at St Gregory’s Catholic Primary in Margate.
The ‘Eco Coding Adventure’ – run by Get With The Program – encouraged pupils from Year 1 to Year 4 to blend coding education with environmental awareness.
The day-long initiative began with a dynamic, assembly-style show featuring Professor Trice and AL the Robot, alongside a video message from a coding expert.
Through fun and engaging tasks, children explored coding concepts while learning about waste reduction and recycling.
Younger children worked on programming activities by following simple instructions, helping them understand basic algorithms in a hands-on way.
Older children advanced their skills in the ICT suite, using programming platform Scratch to bring their ideas to life.
Key Stage 1 leader Rachel Farawi said: “The event had a creative approach, with follow-up activities provided to reinforce learning and ensure children could build on the skills they gained.”
Head Teacher Dave Walker believes the day was important for the young pupils. He said: “The concept locked into environmental awareness and helped further the messages that our children learn about recycling and sustainability, and it also engaged them in developing tech understanding and skills – putting them together in a challenging, enjoyable and accessible way was really successful.”
