Chartwell House care home has teamed up with the Parish of St Laurence and Newington Primary School to host its third Festive Food Pantry to support families in need.
On Saturday, 14th December, from 10am to 2pm, Chartwell House will hold the pantry event at St Christopher’s Church in Princess Margaret Avenue, Newington to provide essential support to local families facing food poverty during the Christmas season.
Since its launch in 2022, the Festive Food Pantry has supported more than 100 families, thanks to the unity and generosity of the community. This year, Chartwell House hopes to extend its reach, focusing on families connected to the Newington estate and Newington Primary School. With the added financial strain over the holidays, the initiative aims to bring comfort to those in need.
Adding extra festive cheer, Inspiring Positive Futures Newington, an Orbit-supported community group, will transform the church grounds into a winter wonderland.
Inspiring Positive Futures Newington is headed up by Julie Coombs, Sophie Coombs, Marie Thomas, Sarah Nicholson and Sandra Herring.
The church team supported the residents by enabling them to use St. Christopher’s Church in Newington as a base to serve the community. Events have included sales, bingo, Newington primary’s choir and more.
The group also supports the church cafe which is run on the first and third Sunday every month.
Now the team will ensure families can enjoy a magical setup, complete with a special visit from Father Christmas.
To support the pantry, Chartwell House welcomes donations of:
- Tinned/jars of food
- Non-perishable food
- Pasta and rice
- Christmas biscuits
- Christmas Pudding
- Mince pies
- Food Items for pets
- Christmas treats
Please ensure all items have a use-by date after 25/12/2024. Unfortunately, the team cannot accept frozen or fresh fruit and vegetables. Donations may be dropped off at Chartwell House Care Home, 26 Draco Drive, Broadstairs, CT9 4FY, and it is asked that all contributions are delivered by Monday, 9th December, to help them estimate the number of families they can support.
