Work aimed at tackling drug-related crime in pubs and clubs has been carried out across Thanet with 15 people searched and 12 sniffed out by police dog Dougal as having been in contact with drugs.
An evening operation last Friday (October 11) included speaking to staff at licenced premises across the district and searching people for drugs.
Kent Police, accompanied by Kent Special Constabulary and licensing enforcement officers from Thanet District Council, visited several venues in Ramsgate, Margate and Broadstairs to ensure they were working to licensing conditions.
Local officers also spoke to members of the public to signpost them to initiatives such as Ask for Angela/Andrew, which are aimed at keeping them safe.
A total of 15 people were searched, 12 of which were identified by Police Dog Dougal as thought to have been in contact with drugs.
Cannabis and class A drugs found during the searches were seized. Seven people were dealt with through community resolutions for possession of drugs.
PC Andy Ballen said: “The aim of the operation was to provide reassurance to the public, as well as identify and arrest those believe to be involved in the supply of illegal drugs in and around the areas of licensed premises. We thank the licensees for their cooperation in helping to safeguard their customers against such an important issue.”
Inspector Paul Robson added: “By taking part in such operations, where police and partners are visible to all, it can help deter crime and disorder, associated violence, and allow people to feel confident that they can enjoy the nighttime economy in a safe environment wherever they choose to go in Thanet.”

Absolute waste of police time and money! Why don’t they stop people cycling on pavements, ditto that for e-scooters instead? Was nearly killed again recently by both, on Margate Road. Lawlessness, and anti-social behaviour more a problem, than people getting off their heads in a pub, whatever next!
The police should do this regularly to keep drugs off the streets.
And what about the drug dealing seen in Ramsgate town centre.
Police could set up obsveration points in the houses at the top and bottom of thompson passage, flats overlooking meeting street and cavendish street carparks, as well as the brick benches by the horse and groom and shut down the crack den at 6 clarendon gardens, it could go a long way to stopping it.
