Birchington’s Maisie Waller to take to West End theatre stage for role in Mamma Mia

Maisie Waller is in the new West End cast for Mamma Mia

Birchington performer Maisie Waller will be stepping on stage at the Novello Theatre in London this October for the latest production run of Mamma Mia.

Last year Maisie, 23, was one of 14 contestants battling it out on ITV’s Mamma Mia! I Have A Dream.

The show, hosted by Zoe Ball, is a musical theatre competition to find the next Sophie and Sky for the smash West End production of ABBA show – Mamma Mia.

The former Ocean Signal electronics manufacturer staff member  was knocked out in the fourth episode but her talents led to Judy Craymer, the creator and producer of Mamma Mia, gifting Maisie  a scholarship to the London School of Musical Theatre for a one year professional training course.

Maisie has now been named as amongst the new cast for musical MAMMA MIA! from Monday 7 October. The show has also got an extension of its booking period to Saturday 27 September 2025 at London’s Novello Theatre, with tickets now on sale.

Maisie said: “The course was amazing, the tuition is first class and you learn so much about the industry.

“In May my agent contacted me saying that the Mamma Mia! team would like to see me for the London production. Stepping back out on stage at the Novello Theatre was quite a mixture of emotions as a lot had happened since I had been there for my “I Have A Dream” auditions.

“The audition process for the musical was pretty intense with a total of seven rounds and workshops. Thankfully I got the call offering me ensemble and covering the roles of Sophie and Lisa (Sophie’s bridesmaid).

“It’s going to be an amazing experience and who knows what might happen in the future. Judy text me to say how pleased she was that I was joining the West End production which is so typically thoughtful of her, she really is the loveliest lady!”

Rehearsals for the show started this week with the opening night for the new cast on October 7.

Maisie has previously taken lead parts in many local productions at venues including Margate’s Theatre Royal (pictured above) and is also a member of many three-piece band Diva Show.

She previously told The Isle of Thanet News that she has always loved the stage, saying: “ I have three sisters and when I was younger my mum put us all into musical theatre classes and I absolutely fell in love.

“My sisters realised it wasn’t for them, but I begged my mum to keep me in the classes and when I started performing in local amateur dramatics, I would try and do every show in the area no matter how big or small. I just wanted to be on stage. I spent all my free time in rehearsal!”
