Man arrested over crash into parked cars in Cliftonville

Collision in Approach Road

A man is in custody following a crash in Cliftonville last night (August 27).

Police were called to Approach Road after a driver collided with two parked cars in the street.

A Kent Police spokesperson said: “Kent Police was called to a report of a car involved in a collision with two parked cars at 11.47pm on Tuesday 27 August.

“Officers attended the scene in Approach Road, Margate, where a 43-year-old man was arrested in connection with the collision and taken into custody.”

Approach Road has been the site of several crashes with one in 2022 resulting in seven cars being damaged. A previous crash in 2020, where a car flipped on its side, prompted calls from residents for safety measures to be installed.

Members of Park Approach Tenants & Residents Association (PATRA) wanted traffic calming or a 20mph limit introduced.

But last year proposals to install traffic safety measures at the Dane Road/Approach Road junction were scrapped.

Cliftonville West ward councillors had hoped for a kerb build out and double yellow lines after changing an initial request for a zebra crossing due to KCC saying criteria was not met for a crossing.

Kent County Council opened a consultation on the scheme last year but said the changes would not be implemented following objections.
