Twelve Deaf, Autistic and Neurodivergent artists are continuing to make their mark on the Margate art scene with their annual ‘Proud 2 Create Summer Exhibition’ at The Margate School.

The works, on display from now until August 30, are all created by artists from the Sandra Art4All Art Studio, which was established by Sandra Hampton in 2016 to provide a platform for young people with special needs.

The exhibition showcases their trademark vibrant, eclectic collection of drawings, paintings and photographs from artists with learning impairments including Autism, Charge Syndrome, Deafness and Cerebral Palsy.

The studio aims to provide a sanctuary of open creativity for artists, supported by carers and loving families. This is the art collectives fifth major summer exhibition at the school.

Sandra Hampton said: “I am thrilled to be holding our annual summer show once again at The Margate School. Our exhibition titled ‘Proud2 Create’ is a great way to start discussions around art and our very different abilities.

“Our Art Studio is a small space where young people are encouraged to make art that is meaningful to them. Whilst we enjoy sharing the work with the community, the studio time and the artists wellbeing are the most important elements. Whether the artwork is planned or happens by accident, each artist is guided to try adaptive tools, attempt explorative doable techniques.”

Amongst those exhibiting their work are two of the studio’s youngest artists who have been selected to be part of the Portfolio Summer Show 2024 at the Turner Contemporary, Margate, which is on now until Sunday 1st September.

Sandra said: “I am particularly proud of our youngest artists. Their works reflect who they are, their communication needs and interests. They are both exceptional at expressing themselves silently and visually through art and it is a privilege for me to be a part of this.

“Our exhibition is a family friendly show. We would love to see everyone there and discuss all of our unique abilities, we especially welcome those who have unique creative family members.”

The Margate School is based at 31-33 High Street, Margate. The exhibition is open every day from 11am – 4pm.
