Young sailors from Margate Yacht Club and Broadstairs Sailing Club have won medals and trophies at the National School Sailing Association annual regatta.

Five members of Margate Yacht Club and three from Broadstairs Sailing Club were among those representing Kent at the event, held at Bassenthwaite Sailing Club on 22-26 July.

The Kent team included Captains Sophia Kyriacou, Izzy Denby, Joe Baker all from Broadstairs SC, and Desmond Barlow, Echo Ilhan, Winter Ilhan and Jacob Websdale and Gray Jackson from Margate YC.

Sailors aged 8-18 competed for 14 regional teams. On the water, 180 boats were split into three courses, with ILCA 4, 6 and Toppers on the orange course and fast and slow handicap on the black course.

Kent won the team trophy and three of the sailing members from the isle won individual medals or trophies.

Echo won the Endeavour Trophy, Winter and teammate George Massingham fought hard to win a fourth place in the Mount Hayes Trophy and Gray won a medal in the ‘Rookie Fleet’ for sailors in their first year of racing.

Kent was the largest team in attendance with members from across the county.
