Broadstairs teen singer Harmony Bo releases debut single

Harmony Bo has released her single through Wantsum Music?

A Broadstairs teenager has released her first single through Wantsum Music youth label.

Harmony Bo,17, is already a seasoned punk singer and songwriter having performed both locally and nationally for several years.

To date Harmony has appeared at Camden’s Good Mixer, Brighton’s Great Escape Festival and the 40th Anniversary of Jeremy Corbyn joining Parliament. Closer to home she has performed shows at venues such as The Tom Thumb Theatre, WhereElse? and Olbys Soul Cafe and has a strong local following.

Her single “Suffragette” was written when she was 15 but at that time she did not have the resources to release her own music.

She then joined Pie Factory Musics Emerging Artist Programme in 2023 where she learnt about the music industry and also with the support of Wantsum Music? how to release her work.

The song is described as “a lyrical slice of Ska Punk weaving sharp, angular guitar, stabbing organs and a driving, polka punk drum beat. “

It is an angry reaction to the overturning of the Roe Vs Wade abortion case in the US.

“Suffragette” has been produced by Harmony with the help of Emerging Artists mentor Mike Targett, tastefully building the track up from its stripped back guitar and drum origins.

Harmony has been a keen member of Wantsum’s parent Pie Factory Music for many years, before joining their most recent ‘Emerging Artists’ programme in 2023 to help further develop her music career. She works with drummer and fellow Emerging Artist Dylan Watling.

Wantsum Music? was started as part of Ramsgate based charity Pie Factory Music’s Emerging Artist Programme. A group of young, talented and diverse East Kent musicians came together in 2021 to help develop their passion for music and their joint desire to progress their musical careers.

Control of Wantsum Music has been passed down through subsequent Emerging Artists and currently resides with 2023’s cohort: Harmony Bo Hampson, Quinn Bailey, Jan Quindoyos, Charley Brown and Dylan Watling.

Wantsum Music? is hosted by Pie Factory Music through funding from Youth Music, and with previous support from Thanet-based global record label Moshi Moshi Music and Berlin-based City Slang Records.
