Crews remained at the scene of an industrial fire at K Laundry in Northwood Road, Ramsgate, this morning (July 24) as they continued to monitor the property.

Update at 9.30am: Advice to keep windows and doors closed in the Northwood Road area of Ramsgate has now been lifted.

Update at 11.15am: Firefighting operations have now finished at an industrial fire in Northwood Road, Ramsgate. There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is not yet known but is being investigated.

The fire service first attended the blaze at 4.28am yesterday (July 23). At the height of the incident 12 fire engines, the height vehicle and a bulk water carrier were in attendance.

Operations were scaled down at 11am yesterday to four fire engines and a height vehicle and then, by 2.30pm, to two vehicles. Crews worked throughout the night damping down the scene.

Kent County Council highways said Northwood Road would be closed between Margate Road/ Newington Road to junction of Pysons Road until July 30th following the fire but it has reopened today.

The commercial laundry and linen hire specialist was founded in 1928 and still operated from the original site.

It was sold by Clive Jones – grandson of the founders- in 2022 to Essex firm Belmont Laundry after he took the decision to retire,

At the end of December 2022, company accounts said there were 65 employees, including company directors.

The future for those workers is now uncertain as they wait to hear from company bosses.
