Police appeal for witnesses and 83 year old arrested after girl hit by car in Broadstairs

An 83 year old man has been arrested and witnesses are being sought after a teenage girl was hit by a car in Broadstairs this morning (June 28).

A grey BMW car was travelling in Broadstairs Road when it was involved in a collision with the girl at the crossing near the junction with Green Lane.

The collision took place between 8am and 8.20am.

The teenage girl suffered a serious injury and was airlifted to a London hospital.

An Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex spokesperson said: “A helicopter from Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex (KSS) was dispatched to Broadstairs on 28 June.

“Our crew worked with SECAmb and Kent Police to help treat the patient, involved in a road traffic collision. They then transported the patient to a major trauma centre by air.”

An 83-year-old man from Broadstairs was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving and taken into custody.
