Man arrested on suspicion of driving, drug and weapon offences following police chase and a crash in Ramsgate

A driver being pursued by police in Ramsgate yesterday (May 7) reportedly drove through a red light at temporary traffic controls  and then crashed with three vehicles before coming to a stop.

Police in Manston Road requested the driver to stop at around 5.10pm but the car continued until crashing near the turning for Princess Margaret Avenue.

Officers then searched the vehicle seizing a baseball bat, cannabis and suspected cocaine.

A 31-year-old man from Margate was arrested on suspicion of driving, drug and weapon offences. He has since been released on bail until August 8.

A Kent Police spokesperson said: “A car travelling along Manston Road, Ramsgate, failed to stop when requested to do so by police officers at around 5.10pm on Tuesday 7 May.

“The vehicle then reportedly drove through a red light before colliding with three other vehicles.

“A search of the car resulted in officers seizing a baseball bat as well as quantities of cannabis and a substance believed to be cocaine.

“A 31-year old man from Margate was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences, including dangerous driving, failing to stop when requested to do so, possession of drugs and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

“He was released on bail until 8 August pending further enquiries.”
