Primary school offers to be received today

School places

Families across the county are finding out today (April 16) the primary schools where their children have been offered places from September 2024.

Out of the 16,653 Kent applicants, 16,436 (98.7%) will receive one of their three named schools and 15,198 (91.26%) will be offered their first preference, a slight increase over last year.

Kent County Council’s Director of Education, Christine McInnes, said: “We are pleased to be able to offer a first preference place to 91.26% of our children, demonstrating the selection of schools offered in the county.

“There may still be those who are disappointed not to be offered any of their preferences and we know this is a concerning time. Further allocation stages will take place before the beginning of the new school year so we would encourage parents to complete a waiting list request for any schools they still wish to be considered for.

“Our specialist team is on hand to help answer queries and we would encourage parents to make contact with the school where they have been offered a place, so they can make an informed decision about whether or not it is appropriate for their child.”

Parents who applied online will receive an email after 4pm today (Tuesday, April 16), indicating which school they have been offered. Parents who applied at www.kent.gov.uk/ola can also log in after 5pm to view the offer online. A first-class letter will be posted today to those who did not provide an email address.

Details of what to do if a family is not happy with their offer can be found in the correspondence from KCC or for more information visit KCC’s website or email [email protected].

Parents and carers will have until Tuesday, April 30,  to accept or refuse their offer and request to join waiting lists. Further information visit KCC’s website and within offer emails or letters.

Any appeal should be lodged using the relevant appeal form by Tuesday, May 14. More details on how to appeal can be found by visiting the appeals page. KCC will reallocate places from schools’ waiting lists, sending out a second round of offers, on Thursday, May 23.

After May 23, 2024, schools will maintain their own waiting lists and parents can apply to any schools directly that they did not originally name to enquire about a place or be added to a waiting list. Parents are advised to contact schools via phone or email to discuss whether site visits are possible.
