Open call for work to feature in Thanet’s third Festival of Cats

Festival of Cats (Will Hebditch)

The third Festival of Cats takes place this April and an open call for artists is being made.

The feline themed festival started from a love of T.S.Eliot’s book of poetry – “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats’ and much like the book, the festival celebrates the psychology, sociology and whimsy of cats.

The exhibition runs from April 25-28 at the Pie Factory Gallery, Margate and there will also be workshops and events in and around Thanet.

Festival creators Jemma Channing and Helen Pitman were overwhelmed with the response to the 2022 Festival of Cats and have announced the 2024 Open Call for Artists for this year’s festival.

Jemma said: “We invite everyone with an interest in creating feline focused artwork to get involved. This is an Open Call to anyone who would like to enter, free of charge, and we encourage applications from artists of all ages, from all places, in all formats and at any stage of their career.

“In 2022 we had over 150 pieces of work by artists from all over the UK and overseas! It was fantastic to see the diversity of work from artists as young as 4 years old.”
