Emergency teams called to Margate to search for missing 12-year-old

RNLI, Coastguard and police searched for a missing 12-year-old girl in Margate last night [December 2].

Teams were called out at around 7pm. The child was found onshore, and safe, at around 8pm.

A Margate RNLI spokesperson said: “Margate’s two RNLI lifeboats joined coastguard rescue teams from Margate, Herne Bay and Deal along with Kent Police and others to search for a missing 12-year old girl in the Margate area at around 7pm last night (Saturday 2 December).

“The search was hampered by dense fog with visibility at sea restricted to around five metres.

“The search was called off after around two hours when the girl was found safe ashore by land-based agencies.”

A Kent Police spokesperson added: “Kent Police was called to concerns for a missing girl in Margate just before 5pm on Saturday 4 December. Officers carried out a search along with the assistance of the Coastguard. The search was stood down after she was found safe and well by officers just before 8pm.”
