Young cricketers from Broadstairs hit the Sandwich junior tournament for six with an impressive display against tough opposition.

In the group stage of the Sandwich Sixes competition, the Broadstairs under 11s faced sides from St Lawrence and Highland Court, Sandwich, Littlebourne and Folkestone.

Throughout these games the team were in top form, scoring high and bowling very well.

After winning all four matches, Broadstairs qualified for the final where once again they faced the host side in an epic contest.

Broadstairs lost the toss which meant they batted first, settling quickly and amassing a huge 56 runs from 30 balls setting a great target for Sandwich to face. In reply, Sandwich batted superbly however it wasn’t enough to beat the score set by Broadstairs.

Sandwich finished on a creditable 40 runs, giving Broadstairs the title by 16 runs.

Broadstairs coach Callum Noble praised his side, the other competitors and the way the tournament was run. He said: “The whole day was fantastic and well organised by Sandwich Cricket Club.

“The children enjoyed every second, and to finish the tournament unbeaten and take the trophy home made the day even more special. Everybody in the team played their part, with great batting, bowling and fielding on display.”
