Magic with a safety message for Northdown Primary School pupils

Safety magician Dave Tricks visited Northdown Primary

Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 at Northdown Primary School, Margate, took part in a special roadshow when safety magician Dave Tricks visited their school to put on a magic show teaching them about stranger danger.

Getting across vital messages on how to keep themselves safe, Dave wowed the children with magic tricks that highlighted his key message of “No. Go. Yell. Tell.”

Esme Cooper, Reception Year teacher, said: “The children (and adults) were amazed by Dave’s tricks! It was a fun way to learn a very important message.”

Although the roadshow was met with much laughter and wonder at the seemingly unbelievable magic, the children took the serious message to heart. Five-year-old Evie said: “I loved the show.  I learned to say no if a stranger walks up to me.”

Riley, aged 6, agreed: “It was a really good show. I liked when he broke his wand.”

The roadshow, which mixed magic with comedy and puppets, was booked to coincide with the beginning of summer as the youngsters spend more time outside at the park and on the beach.

Headteacher Matthew Harris said: “We aim to offer a range of different extracurricular activities to the children to not only enrich their experiences but also to teach them the key things they need to be safe and happy beyond our school gate.”
