Greek restaurant and takeaway The Souvlaki is now open in Margate.

The restaurant, based at the former Ruby Lounge venue in The Parade, serves up traditional Greek souvlaki and gyros as well as desserts.

Vegetarian and vegan options are available alongside fresh salads.

The Souvlaki started as a street food stall in summer 2015 at Kingston Ancient Market and became popular quickly.

The first restaurant opened in Kingston Upon Thames in 2018 followed by four new venues in 2022.

In 2023 The Souvlaki was crowned best takeaway in Greater London at the JustEat Restaurant Awards.

They import and use traditional natural Greek products like the Cretan Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Feta Cheese, olives, original Cypriot Halloumi, Greek pitta bread and homemade sauces.

The business founders are Valentinos Varelas from Athens and Sandy Tsagdi  from Peloponnese.

  1. There are plenty of people who still have decent disposable income. We’re not ‘all in it together’ despite what the politicians say. We have a split society.
Restaurant sounds great, all the best to it.

  2. Messed up my takeaway order, which was a collection. No way of contacting you without going all the way back. I ordered rib eye. Not halloumi !!!!
