Upton cricketers win through to Kent finals

Year 3 and 4 champions

Upton Juniors will be batting for Thanet in the finals of the Kent primary schools cricket tournament this summer.

The school bowled staff over with their impressive performances in a number of age categories at the district’s qualifying matches held at Broadstairs Cricket Club.

The combined Year 3 and 4 became Thanet champions after finishing top of their section, earning the right to fly the flag for the area at the county showdown on July 4 at a venue yet to be arranged.

Year 5 and 6 girls

Upton’s Year 5 and 6 mixed team were only two runs away from making the final, with the Year 5 and 6 girls finishing second in Thanet.

Head of School Darci Arthur said: “This was a brilliant all-round performance by our cricketers and our staff and pupils are very proud of their achievements.

“We will be cheering them on next month in the final when they take on the district winners from around the county to decide the Kent winners. Whatever the outcome we know they will make us proud.”
