Volunteers Week takes place from June 1-7 and one of the isle groups celebrating will be Windmill Community Gardens Margate (WCGM).
Based in Dane Valley, WCGM’s regular activities including a gardening club, forest gardening and well-being groups; Cabbage Patch and Forest Patch sessions for families with young children; plus the newly launched Saturday activities for both families and aspiring gardeners. There are also opportunities for work experience, volunteering and educational visits, with a friendly team of staff and volunteers offering their support.
Lottery and other funding covers essential running costs but WCGM raises 50 per cent of its yearly costs through a weekly chemical free veg bag scheme and Thursday market stall.
All the work is done with the invaluable help of the WCGM volunteers.

“Whether you are an experienced gardener or simply interested in learning more about gardening, there is something for everyone at Windmill Community Gardens Margate. Our friendly team of volunteers and staff are here to welcome you and share their gardening tips and skills.”
The community gardens team will be holding two public events to celebrate Volunteers Week:
Windmill Community Gardens Margate will be hosting a coffee morning for new volunteers on Thursday 1st June from 11am-noon at the community garden, including visits to the market garden between 11:30-noon for those who are interested.
Rounding off Volunteers’ Week, join the team on Wednesday, June 7 for a garden tour and refreshments at the community garden from 10am-11 am, followed by a visit to the market garden from 11am-11:30 for those who would like to join.
