This week (May 22-27) is St Augustine’s Week with a festival of activities celebrating Augustine of Canterbury who landed near Ramsgate in 597 and became the first Archbishop of Canterbury.

St Augustine & Pugin: Shrine and Visitor Centre is open to visitors 12.30pm – 3.30pm every day other than Tuesday and Sunday.

Programme for the week:

Monday 22nd May – 7pm, Minster Hand Bells Group concert and demonstration-come and have a go

Tuesday 23rd May -12.30pm, from St Augustine’s walk to St Augustine’s Cross with sermon by Fr Simon Heans. Afterwards walk on to Minster for tea at the Abbey. Those not wishing to walk are welcome to join at the Cross

Wednesday 24th May -8pm, Choral concert with poems on the theme of St Augustine – ‘Non Anglised Angeli’. £10, under 18s Free

Thursday 25th May  – 7.30pm, Talk on the Augustine Camino by Andrew Kelly, Shrine Manager – hear about the latest developments along the route including recognition from Santiago in Spain

Saturday 27th May- noon, Mass for the Feast of St Augustine and 2pm Blessing of the Sea at the Obelisk in the harbour

All welcome. Free admission with donations welcome. Free parking on Royal Esplanade.
