Garlinge Primary dance crew scoop regional title and place in national finals

The Garlinge dance crew will compete in national finals in June

Garlinge Primary School and Nursery have taken the regional winners title in a South East dance competition and are now due to head off to the national finals.

The youngsters travelled to Chatham to take part in the competition which is held every year across theatres around the United Kingdom. This year the South East regional heat was held at Central Theatre in Chatham.

The group of 24 Garlinge pupils were both nervous and excited, knowing that they were going to perform on a theatre stage and would be competing against 19 other talented schools.

The day was a fantastic experience for all the children who were able to watch the other performances and throughout showed their school values by clapping and cheering their fellow competitors on.

Garlinge dance team gave a fantastic performance called Neverland. Through dance they created a spin-off Disney story production of Peter Pan. The children came away as regional winners and will compete nationally in Oxford for the finals in June.

Miss Bailey, PE and School Sports Specialist, said: “Since working at Garlinge I have had fantastic support from the school in widening our dance opportunities. Every child now receives dance as part of their curriculum, and we also offer a range of dance clubs and workshops during and after school. “The support has meant we have been able to enter this regional competition and I cannot wait to see the dance crew perform at the national finals in June, a huge opportunity to represent the South East.”

Mr Cope, Head of School, added: “This is a fantastic achievement by our Year 6 dance crew who put many hours of hard work and dedication into perfecting their dance – this award is well deserved!”
