Garlinge Primary School and Nursery holds reading celebration day

Kirsty Verier- Cordery reads to Garlinge children

Children and staff of Garlinge Primary School and Nursery took part in a ‘Celebration of Reading Day’ yesterday (March 24) to appreciate and promote all that is exciting about reading and to inspire children to become lifelong book fans.

Garlinge Primary School and Nursery welcomed storyteller Kirsty Verier- Cordery to read some stories to children in Reception, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 6. Kirsty captivated the children’s attention and imagination by bringing the short stories to life with her talented performances.

Children in Year 3, 4 and 5 attended special assemblies hosted by a Kent author Gianna Pollero, writer of the brilliant Monster Doughnuts series. As well as having the opportunity to meet and ask questions of Gianna, children in each of the year groups planned and generated ideas for writing their own exciting stories.

Mr Millership, who leads English for the school, added: “It is great to welcome local authors and storytellers to our school so that they can inspire our pupils in their reading and writing.”
