St Laurence in Thanet Junior pupils dig in for tree planting scheme

Year 6 children from St Laurence in Thanet Junior Academy have worked with Thanet council on an isle tree planting scheme.

On a grey, but luckily not rainy, Friday morning the children went to Warre Recreational Ground in Ramsgate, wellies on, shovels in hand and planted their trees. After having practised planting trees on their own school ground in January, they were dab hands at it and made short work of the job.

The children labelled the trees they had a hand in planting, and will be able to show their achievements to family and friends.

Mrs Mountjoy, Head of Geography said: ‘In every year group, we teach the children about their local area and make it a priority to give the children as many opportunities as we can to get out in the community to have a positive impact.

“The smiling faces of the children, and the vast number of trees they planted is testament to how much they care about their local area. We are very proud of them.”
