Appeal for witnesses after car and caravan deliberately set alight on driveway of family home in Ramsgate

Kent Police officers are appealing for information, CCTV or dashcam footage after a car and a caravan were deliberately set alight on the driveway of a family home in Ramsgate during the early hours of this morning (September 30).

Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to Margate Road at 2.44am to reports of the car and caravan alight. Two fire engines attended, and crews used hose reel jets to put the fires out.

It is understood a person in a white hoodie was caught on CCTV by the family cameras. The occupants, including children, were forced to evacuate the property at the rear and shelter in their shed while emergency services dealt with the incident.

A KFRS spokesperson said: “There were no reported injuries and the fire is believed to have been started deliberately.”

Police were called in at 3.15am and say an investigation is now underway.

A Kent Police spokesperson said: “Kent Police officers were called to assist Kent Fire and Rescue Service at the scene of a fire in Margate Road, Ramsgate, near the junction with Coleman Crescent, at 3.15am.

“A car and a caravan were destroyed by the fire, which is currently being treated as suspicious.

“Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing and anyone with information, or CCTV or dashcam footage from the area between 2am and 3am that morning, is urged to call Kent Police on 01843 222289, quoting reference 46/189673/22.”
