St Gregory’s team scoops top place at Thanet Girls Football Tournament

Winning team from St Gregory's

St Gregory’s Catholic Primary School in Margate is celebrating after the Year 5/6 girls football team won the Thanet Girls football tournament.

The competition was held at Upton school in Broadstairs on Saturday, September 24.  They also won the tournament last year.

The team played eight games, winning seven and drawing one and only conceded one goal-all without any subs.

The girls will represent Thanet at the Kent finals in the New Year.

Sports teacher Harvey Brivio said: “The girls played outstandingly for the school and were also great role models throughout the whole day with excellent professionalism.

“They won seven out of the eight games they played, only letting in one goal in the process. “This was all without any substitutions, so the 7 girls played every minute of their 8 games.

“A few of the girls play for local teams such as East Kent FC and the Thanet Girls team so they are experienced in the sport. By winning this competition, they have qualified for the Kent Finals where they will represent Thanet against other teams in the county.”
