A stolen motorbike is to be returned to its owner following arrests by officers in Broadstairs.

The motorcycle was reported stolen from the town centre at 1.20pm yesterday (September 22).

Officers attended the scene and, following enquiries, two men were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle in the  Prospect Road area around an hour later. The motorbike has been recovered and will be returned to its owner.

The two men arrested, aged 23 and 22 and both from Thanet, have been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Following the incident, officers are advising motorbike and moped owners to take steps to make sure their vehicles are secure.

Inspector Ian Swallow, of Thanet Community Safety Unit, said: ‘To reduce the chances of becoming a victim of this type of crime, we advise you park your bike out of sight, in a garage or secure back garden.

‘Always lock, chain and cover your bike and if you have to leave it in a public place, find somewhere that is well-lit and, ideally, is overlooked and covered by CCTV.

‘Also consider fitting a tracking device, so that we can locate and hopefully return the bike in the event that it is stolen.’
