Crime prevention officers from Thanet Community Safety Unit together with partner agencies will be out and about at Westwood Cross on Wednesday, December 11 between 5pm and 7pm to speak to shoppers about keeping belongings safe and reducing the chances of becoming a target for burglars.

Historically at this time of year there is an increase in the number of burglaries reported so officers are asking people to think about taking simple actions around their home which make it harder for thieves to steal:

Removing keys, cash and expensive items from view.

Ensure UPVC doors are locked with a key as well as lifting the handle.

Using timer switches on lights and radios to make your home look occupied.

Locking away tools and garden items that could be stolen or used to break into your home.

Security marking items such as bikes, mobiles and laptops.

Installing a safe that is bolted to the ground or a wall.

Keeping receipts and making a note of serial numbers for expensive items.

Registering important items for free onwww.immobilise.com – this can help us return them to you if they are stolen and then recovered.
