Christmas fun 2019: Elf Express, Santa specials, Village Voices and more

The Elf Express and Magical Elf Forest has arrived at Quex Park in Birchington.

Running from December 1-24 visitors can board the Elf Express and venture through the Magical Elf Forest, with greetings from three very cheerful elves. 

Each elf will be waiting with a sweet treat or two before guests climb the winding staircase to meet Santa for a Christmas story and present!

Visitors will need to arrive at the departure point no later than 10 minutes before their chosen time slot. Departure point is at Quex Barn Address.

Toy Fort Grotto

The Toy Fort Grotto at Westwood Cross shopping centre is open now and runs until December 24.

Little ones can visit the grotto and see its 6-metre high turrets and welcoming Nutcrackers

Santa Specials

Santa Specials will run at Crampton Tower Museum in The Broadway, Broadstairs.

Journey to the top of Crampton Tower, through the elves’ workshop, to visit Father Christmas in his grotto. Kids of all ages can enjoy the model railways, and if the weather allows a free miniature train ride!

Open from 12.30pm-4pm with last admission at 3.30pm on December 7-8, 14-15 and 21-22.

Book in at Museum Kiosk from 12.15pm on arrival (no pre-booking)

Costs £7 per child, parents/guardians go free. Price includes a carefully chosen gift and a free miniature train ride – if weather allows.

Christmas in Minster

A Santa’s Grotto, stalls and music from the Village Voices Choir will feature at a Christmas event in Minster.

Christmas Wonderland, in aid of charity Louie’s Helping Hands, will be held at the Old Vicarage in St Mildreds Road, Minster, on December 22 from 3pm to 5.30pm. Entry is £2. 

Caves Christmas market

A Christmas craft market will be held at Margate Caves in Northdown Road on December 6-7, open 11am-4pm. Entry is free.

Tree of Love

Pilgrims Hospices’ is hosting the annual Trees of Love remembrance service with carols on December 7 at Thanet hospice.

They offer people a lovely and personal way to remember those we aren’t able to spend time with at Christmas. Beautiful dove dedications are placed on the Trees of Love to be lit up during the service, and to remain shining in loving memory throughout the festive season.

During the service, guests find their dove dedicated to their loved one, sing carols, switch on the tree lights and listen to festive readings, with refreshments of hot chocolate, mulled wine and mince pies.

Age UK fair

Age UK Thanet hosts a Christmas Fair on December 7 at Ramdolph House in Zion Place, Cliftonville.

The fair runs from 10.30am-1pm and will include Santa, singing and [performances, tombola, stalls and a dance finale. Entry is free.

Christmas concert

The Thanet Male Voice Choir charity Christmas concert takes place on December 8 at 2.30pm.

Featuring the choir with special guests Upton Junior School Choir and  Proteus Brass Ensemble. It will be held at Holy Trinity Church, Nelson Place, Broadstairs.

Silver band

A Birchington Silver Band concert will be held at the Village Centre in Alpha Road on December 15.

Enjoy an afternoon concert including marches, light classics, music from the shows and popular melodies, starting at 2.30pm. Santa will also be present.

Free entry (includes a raffle and collection).

Farmers; Market

Cliftonville Farmers Market takes place at The Oval in Eastern Esplanade on December 22 from 10am to 1pm. Producers will be selling bread, cheese, honey, fruit, vegetables, wild game, fruit juices, fresh meat and much more.

Carols at St Augustine’s

Carols by Candlelight will take place at St Augustine’s, Ramsgate, on December 14 between 7.30pm and 9,30pm.

Music from the Cantate Chamber Choir, mulled wine and mince pies.  Admission £10, Under 18s Free.
