Man accused of murdering Mark Miles in Cliftonville appears in court

Richard McAuley is likely to face trial in March

A man accused of murdering dad-of-two Mark Miles in Cliftonville on October 12 has appeared in court today (October 16)

Richard McAuley, 23, appeared at Maidstone Crown Court following his arrest. He has been remanded until the next hearing scheduled for November 15.

Kent Police was called to a report of a disturbance at a flat in Sandhurst Place, at 2am on October 12. Mr Miles was reported to have been stabbed with a broken bottle. Officers attended along with South East Coast Ambulance Service the 44-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

Richard McAuley, 23, of Northdown Road, Cliftonville, was arrested a short distance away and taken into custody.

Both he and Mr Miles were known to one another.

Mr McAuley has also been charged with assaulting a woman during the same incident. She was not seriously injured

A plea is expected to be entered at the next hearing. The case is expected to go to trial on March 30.
